New Galloway - Dumfries and Galloway.

New Galloway is a picturesque rural town in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. New Galloway can be found on the A713, the tourist route from Ayr to Castle Douglas. New Galloway was established by Viscount Kenmure in the early 1600's and is close to Loch Ken and the Galloway Forest Park. New Galloway is the smallest Royal Burgh in Scotland, after the Viscount of Kenmure attained royal status in 1630 to enable it to operate as a market town.

New Galloway boasts a Town Hall with an attractive Tower, two hotels, the Kenmure Arms Hotel and the Cross Keys Hotel, a golf course, a post office and a few pubs and small shops. On a warm summer day, enjoy a hot bacon roll and a pot of tea at the Smithy Tea Rooms, next to the brook at the top end of the town. I also enjoyed a quick walk in the Countryside, opposite the entrance to the Golf Course. The ruins of Kenmure Castle can be found about a mile south of the town, overlooking Loch Ken. During the castles history, the castle was burned down on three occasions.
