Blue Lagoon Iceland - Experience the Blue Lagoon Spa.

The Blue Lagoon Iceland is a large natural outside spa pool filled with geothermically heated water from volcanic springs. On two occasions as part of a four hour layover at reykjavik International Airport flying from Glasgow in Scotland to Orlando in Florida, Icelandair provided us with free tickets to experience the Blue Lagoon Spa natural phenomenon.

A half hour coach shuttle from the airport takes you to the Blue Lagoon, where you can spend two hours bathing or swimming in the Blue Lagoon or just relax and view in the adjoining cafeteria. Individual lockers are provided for your hand luggage. Towels and shower facilities are also provided, which can be useful to get rid of the sulphur smell if you should decide to rub the healing spa mud on your face and body, as part of the full spa experience. Personally, the Blue Lagoon Iceland was an amazing experience, enhanced by the fact that it was February and I was outside bathing in the volcanically heated water with steam rising around me, whilst snow flakes fell on my head!

If you have the time it is worth spending a few days in Iceland to take in the amazing scenery of lava field landscapes, mountains and waterfalls. Stay at vibrant Reykjavik and visit the shops, museums, cafes and restaurants. Interestingly, the inhabitants of Iceland obtain their home heating source from the geothermal energy, after it has been processed. Other places to visit include the wonderful waterfall at Gullfoss, the geothermal area at Geysir and the Thingvellir National Park.

Due to the credit crunch resulting in the collapse in some of the Icelandic based banks, the UK pound and the US dollar have gained considerably against the Icelandic Kroner, making it now more affordable to visit Iceland.
